Mpho Tshifhiwa Muthubi was born and raised in Diepkloof, Soweto and attended his school at Mangwele Primary and Madibane High School. It was when he was at this school when his writing was noticed by two of his former teachers in LP Direko and the late Themba Molefe who went on to be the editor for The Sowetan newspaper before he passed on.
